We are kicking off a free deep learning course!
The course will start on the 23rd October and run for 8 weeks, every Monday from 6-8 pm. The goal is to work towards applying deep learning to your own project. We will get you to form teams around project ideas, for example with fellow members interested in applying AI to a problem in health.
Throughout the course, we will be following fast.ai, a coding-based MOOC, which we will ask people to complete in their own time. The contact sessions will be used to recap the course content and cover important theoretical background, providing assistance for any points in the course that people need help with.
Over the first few weeks, the focus will be on theoretical content with bite-size presentations from our mentors to cover key concepts. During this time, you will also be developing ideas for a specific project.
Example application areas:
– Robotics and automation
– Creative industries
– Marketing and business solutions
By the halfway mark, you will be presenting your project idea and ready to focus on applying deep learning to your own data. Our mentors will be available every session to provide guidance. The last four weeks will be a sprint towards the final pitch night! To make things exciting, Amazon will be judging and giving out prizes.
As an added bonus, the entire course is sponsored by Amazon, who are providing free cloud credits for every member.
Week 1: Team formation and introduction theory
Weeks 2-3: Theory and concept development
Week 4: Project mini-pitch
Weeks 5-7: Project development
Week 8: Amazon Pitch Night
We ask that you have a basic understanding of Python and that you list a field of interest when you register. This will allow us to best group you into teams. If you already have a specific project in mind or a team, let us know. This is our pilot programme so the course is completely free. However, as spaces are limited to 80, please only sign up if you are sure you can commit to the 8 weeks!
We look forward to seeing you there,
Natalie, Matt and the Brisbane.AI mentor crew
